Seasons

Will you think of times you told me that you knew the reason why we had to each be lonely? It was just the season

- Shoot the Moon, Norah jones

Is there anything more bittersweet than seeing the first hint of gold and orange sprinkling the trees at the beginning of fall? The excitement of amazing transition of seasons is dampened by the knowledge that colder weather is on its way. Knowing that we’ll be trading our swimsuits and flip flops for sweaters and boots.

While there are wonderful things on the horizon, like pumpkin spice and Christmas lights, there’s also snow and ice, and freezing nights. For all the beauty of the seasons, there’s also darkness. The beauty of the first snowflake extinguishes when we’re digging our car out of 3 feet of frozen snow. The first hint of gold and orange preparing us for the season to come.

every winter I ask myself why do I live in the midwest?

The seasons of our lives mirror the seasons of nature. Summer is warm and bright, winter is cold and dark. Just like in our lives we have amazing, successful periods and devastating and sad periods. A new baby is born, while another loved one passes away. We move into our dream house and then lose our job a month later. We cycle through each period over and over again. Gaining knowledge as we go and then having the knowledge tested again.

this is very triggering

The Fairydust is that seasons are seasonal. They only last for so long. When we’re at the top of the world, living in our summer period, we need to have some preparation for the winter period. When we’re knee deep in our darkest season, we can take comfort that our summer period is on the horizon. Seasons change, we just have to be prepared for the seasonal change
